Barons Set To Open Playoffs Against Charlotte

The Barons are set to open up a best-of-five series against the Charlotte Checkers Friday night in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City and Charlotte met eight times during the regular season, with the Barons owning a 4-3-1-0 advantage over the Checkers. The Barons posted a 3-1-0-0 mark in Charlotte. This marks the first postseason meeting between the two teams. Oklahoma City was led by Philippe Cornet who had eight points (4-4-8) and Mark Arcobello who had six points (4-2-6) in the head-to-head games. Niko Hovinen won both of his starts against Charlotte, posting a 2.5 goals against average and .898 save percentage.

The Barons roster features 12 players returning from the playoff squad that advanced to the Western Conference Finals in the 2012 Calder Cup playoffs. Among those returnees are goaltender Year Yann Danis; forwards Mark Arcobello, Tanner House, Curtis Hamilton, Chris VandeVelde, Tyler Pitlick, Josh Green and Antti Tyrvainen; defensemen Colten Teubert, Alex Plante, and Martin Marincin.

Oklahoma City's roster features several coaches & players with championship experience. Head Coach Todd Nelson has been a part of one championship as a player and three as a coach. He earned a Calder Cup as a player with the Portland Pirates in 1995, won back-to-back titles as head coach of the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League and a second Calder Cup as an assistant with the Chicago Wolves in 2008.

Forward Ben Eager won a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010 and a Calder Cup with Philadelphia in 2005. Defenseman Randy Jones was a teammate of Eager's in Philadelphia in 2005. Forward Darcy Hordichuk won a Turner Cup with the Orlando Solar Bears of the International Hockey League in 2001 and goaltender Yann Danis won a Calder Cup with Hamilton in 2007. Jonathan Cheechoo earned an Ontario Hockey League championship with the Belleville Bulls in 1999, Kristians Pelss won a Western Hockey League title last season with the Edmonton Oil Kings and Andrew Hotham won a CIS championship with St. Mary's in 2010.
