Students in the Builder's Club at Clark Elementary in the Union District put their skills to good use.
The fourth and fifth graders have been working on training boards for service dogs.
The boards help teach basic skills like flipping light switches.
Wednesday, the students presented them to the dogs and their trainers from Therapetics.
"The project was to give the kids the opportunity to actually do things for other people. We have a lot of people who do things for our kids, and this was their opportunity to do something for someone else," said teacher Kent Jones.
The engineers at Fab Lab downtown helped, as well.
Jones says a little peanut butter on the switch goes a long way in training the dogs.
