A brutal attack outside a south Oklahoma City motel leads to murder. One woman is dead, another's in the hospital and police have arrested the man they believe is responsible.

It all happened outside the Quality Inn Hotel off Interstate 240 and Western, just before 6 a.m.

Police believe it started as an attempted carjacking, but it turned deadly when the man took out a knife and started stabbing both the women. And surveillance cameras at the hotel captured it all on tape.

Cameras on the outside and a live feed of what is happening on the inside may provide investigators with all the clues they need help to solve this heinous and brutal case.

News 9 was there as police looked over the tape. We were also there as two Marines described how the suspect may have tried to get into their car too before the deadly attack.

"Like the first thing I noticed was why is everything in the seats," said Justin Ford, one of the Marines.

"Lot of stuff was pulled out of the glove box," said his brother Patrick Ford, who is also a Marine. "The back of the seats the ignitions all messed up."

The brothers are from Duncan, Okla. and were here for an early morning military drill. When they got back, they noticed all the police cars around. So they went back to their car, and discovered blood on the inside.

"It's like all over the doors and all over the dash." explained Justin. "It's like all in the front."

In fact, evidence markers mark the trail of blood found all over the parking lot. There's also evidence of where the women's purses were grabbed and dumped.

Police say the two women were staying at the motel and were headed to their car around 6 a.m. Thursday when they were brutally attacked.

Police have arrested 20-year-old Jeffery Tate. He was found in a nearby neighborhood and was taken in for questioning. He now stands accused of first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Right now we do not know if these women knew their attacker or if it was a random act of violence. Police say the other woman who was stabbed is expected to survive. The identities of both women are being withheld until their families can be notified
