Haley Henshaw's grand slam in the fifth inning kick-started the No. 24 Tulsa softball team to an 8-0 (5 inn.) triumph over Missouri State on Wednesday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Junior pitcher Aimee Creger (22-5) went five innings allowing only three hits while striking out seven batters, as the Golden Hurricane improved to 38-13-1 on the season. Chelsea Jones (13-19) went 4.2 innings allowing 10 hits and four earned runs in the losing cause for the Bears (19-28).

Henshaw went 3-for-3 at the plate, and the grand slam was the first of her career and her fifth home run of the campaign. Catherine Horner had a double that knocked in two runs, while Caitlin Everett and Samantha Cobb each tallied two hits and an RBI.

Tulsa jumped on the board in third inning after Horner scored on a ground out by Samantha Cobb to give the Hurricane a 1-0 advantage.

Heading into the home half of the fifth, the Golden Hurricane held a slim 1-0 lead, but erupted for seven runs to close out the contest. After two singles by Cobb and Barrett and a walk by Kernen, Henshaw sent a home run over the fence in right-center field to propel TU to a 5-0 lead.

Later in the inning, TU had runners on first and third with two outs when Horner hit a double deep into left centerfield to clear the bases. TU's final run came when Everett knocked in Cassidy Bowen, who ran for Horner, with a double of her own to end the game.

Missouri State hit a single in the second and third innings and a double in the fourth, but never advanced a runner past second base.

The Golden Hurricane continues its four-game home stand this weekend against Southern Miss. The three-game Conference USA series begins with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at noon Sunday. The four Tulsa seniors will be honored in a ceremony following the game on Sunday.
