May is usually when the weather heats up in Oklahoma, so many were surprised to feel near-freezing temperatures and see snowfall in the panhandle on May 2.

News 9 Storm Tracker Marty Logan drove through Laverne early Thursday morning as a light blanket of snow fell. It accumulated on grass, but not on roads and bridges. However, the snow did leave streets wet and slick.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said Thursday morning that crews were salting bridges and overpasses to address the light snow accumulation.

The News 9 Weather Team says snow will not fall in the metro, but it will be wet, drizzly and cold. Thursday will feature lows in the mid-30s and highs in the 40s.

Thursday morning's weather caused a problem for at least one flight out of the Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

Airport Spokeswoman Karen Carney tells News 9 a strong gust of wind pushed a small plane off a runway shortly before 6:30 a.m.

Carney says the plane was preparing to take off when the incident happened.

Fire and rescue crews based at Will Rogers were dispatched to the runway to check on the damage.

The plane's pilot was not hurt.

Carney says the incident was "very minor."
