Attempted Traffic Stop Leads To Chase, Drug Arrests In SE OKC
Oklahoma County deputies arrested three suspects following a short pursuit in Oklahoma City early Thursday morning.
OKLAHOMA CITY -
A defective brake light led to a pursuit and three arrests early Thursday morning, according the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 12:15 a.m., a deputy noticed a vehicle with a bad brake light and attempted to pull it over near the intersection of S.E. 59th Street and Shields Boulevard. The driver, however, refused to stop the deputy began chasing the car.
During the pursuit, the deputy saw the suspects throw several baggies out of the car. Oklahoma City police officers joined the chase, and it ended at S.E. 59th Street and Byers. All three people inside the vehicle were arrested.
"This was a great job by our deputy,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. "He was attentive in noticing the brake light was out on the suspects’ vehicle, and what started as a simple traffic stop led to three felony arrests."
The driver was identified as 25-year-old Brandon Gunn. Martriel Jones, 27, and Devin Aughenbaugh, 20, were passengers.
Deputies recovered the baggies thrown from the car during the chase and discovered they all contained a crystal substance. When deputies searched the car, they found a digital scale, a white powdery substance and a leafy substance that may have been marijuana.
All three suspects were booked on several drug complaints. Gun was also booked for attempting to elude an officer.
