OKLAHOMA CITY -

Rims and tires, stolen off trucks and SUV’s, and left on cement blocks. It's happening all over Oklahoma City. Police say the thieves know what they're after, and how to make a quick getaway.

“Never dreamed that I would walk out to no tires,” Craig Taylor said.

Around 6:30 a.m. late last month, Craig Taylor and his wife walked outside and saw their Chevrolet Suburban on cinder-blocks.

“They took landscape pavers off my tree ring, and put it under that car, used my own property to steal my property,” Taylor said.

Taylor says the wrecking company who picked up his truck, says it was their third pick-up without tires in one day. Not too far from Taylor, just days apart on the Northwest side of the city, another wheel theft. A blue Chevrolet work truck sits in a driveway on cinderblocks. Even the lug nuts are left on the ground.

“It’s pretty devastating when you walk out, and you have a car that you can’t drive,” Taylor said.

Now neighbors like Morene Taylor, whose only had her 2012 Ford Raptor for about six months are keeping a closer eye on things.

“This man stopped me and told me that those are about $1,200 tires,” Morene Taylor said.

$1,200 a piece! It cost Craig Taylor and his wife more than $3,000 to replace their rims and tires. Now they're in the process of installing lights around the driveway.

“I’d rather spend the money to prevent it, than have to deal with having to put it back on. It’s pretty inconvenient,” Taylor said.

A few things to consider to keep from becoming a target. Police want everyone to make sure their driveways are well lit throughout the night. The presence of security cameras and signs also help.
