NORMAN, Oklahoma -

Norman police arrested University of Oklahoma sophomore quarterback Kendal Thompson after finding him passed out in the grass outside in front of an apartment complex.

Police were called early Friday morning after a neighbor reported a loud party at 730 Stinson Street. They found Thompson lying on the ground. He appeared to be sleeping. Police say he smelled strongly of alcohol.

An officer flashed his flash light in Thompson’s face and woke him up. According to the police report, Thompson tried to speak but his worlds were slow, slurred and hard to understand. Thompson also kept trying to stand and the officer had to repeatedly order him to sit down.

The officer said at one point, Thompson put his hand in his pocket where the officer could not see it. The officer ordered Thompson to sit down and take his hand out of his pocket. When Thompson didn’t obey his command, the officer grabbed his arm, put him on the ground and put his hands behind his back.

After a brief struggle, police took Thompson into custody. He was booked into the Cleveland County jail for public intoxication and interference with official process.

Thompson played high school football at Southmoore and is the son of former OU quarterback Charles Thompson.  Thompson is one of three quarterbacks fighting for Oklahoma's starting position.
