Bees Late Rally Stings RedHawks

The Salt Lake Bees scored eight unanswered runs to seal a 9-3 win against the Oklahoma City RedHawks Sunday in front of a crowd of 4,306 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks (22-14) led, 3-1, before the Bees scored three runs in the eighth and added five more in the ninth inning of the comeback win.

Salt Lake (18-20) won an eighth-straight game against Oklahoma City and kept the RedHawks searching for their first win against the Bees since May 15, 2011. The Bees took a 2-0 lead in the current series.

Brad Hawpe led the Bees with a game-high three hits and five RBI, including three on a home run in the top of the ninth inning.

Ryan Brasier (1-1) recorded the win on the mound for Salt Lake, allowing zero runs and zero hits in two innings.

Pitcher Jarred Cosart started for the RedHawks, throwing six innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out four. Kevin Chapman (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on zero hits, walking two and striking out one in 2/3 innings.

Five different players recorded a hit for Oklahoma City Sunday.

The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Brandon Laird hit a double to right field that scored Brett Wallace from first base. Wallace slid behind the attempted tag by the catcher for the first run of the game.

Salt Lake quickly tied the game in the second inning when Bill Hall grounded out, scoring Matt Long.

A RBI single to center by Marc Krauss put Oklahoma City ahead, 2-1, in the fifth inning.

Che-Hsuan Lin singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Austin Wates. Lin went on to steal third then gave the RedHawks a 3-1 lead. With Cody Clark batting, a throwing error by Bees pitcher David Carpenter on a pickoff attempt at third base scored Lin.

Hawpe's line-drive single to right field in the eighth inning scored two runs for the Bees to tie the game. Bill Hall hit a RBI single to center field to put Salt Lake ahead, 4-3, with two outs. Salt Lake added five runs in the top of the ninth inning, including a three-run homer by Brad Hawpe to left field for a 9-3 Bees edge.

The RedHawks series against Salt Lake continues with a 7:05 p.m. game Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
