TULSA, Oklahoma -

A program that allows Tulsa students to plant and harvest their own food is growing. Two alternative schools - Tulsa MET Junior High and High School - are adding on to their community garden, with the help of local organizations.

Up With Trees, the University of Tulsa, and the Lobeck Taylor Foundation will help the students develop green spaces and an outdoor meeting area.

The schools hopes it will inspire more Tulsans to get involved.

"You know school is a community organization, and the kids need you and we need you. And they're going to be the citizens of Tulsa someday," said Dr. Michelle Butler, principal.

The school donates most of what they grow to the Community Food Bank, and students take the rest home.
