TULSA, Oklahoma -

The father and stepmother of a 9-year-old boy, who police say endured "torture" in their care, are now facing criminal charges.

Eulalio Rangel and Andrea Lang have each been charged with child abuse by injury and child neglect.

Police say they found the boy with about 30 marks on his back in various stages of healing. They say Rangel inflicted most of the beating, reportedly using a belt. But they say Lang sometimes helped hold the boy during the beatings.

Investigators say the parents kept the boy home from school the day after a family member noticed the boy's injuries and contacted police.

Rangel and Lang each remain in Tulsa County jail on $100,000 bond.
