A new pastor at a Bixby church is county his blessings even though his home was destroyed by Monday's tornado.

Jeff Sloan and his family are in the process of moving to Green Country from Moore.

His Moore home was flattened, but his spirit hasn't been dampened.

"It still just feels like a dream, it's really surreal," he said. "We're just depending on God's people."

The Sloan home sat on Penn Lane, fourth one down.

"I just think it still hasn't dawned on me," Sloan said.

The Sloans' sons were in Moore when the tornado struck.

Jeff and his wife, Sherri, were in Bixby, closing on their new home.

Thirty minutes after the paperwork was signed, an EF5 tornado struck in Moore.

The boys made it to safety while the tornado barreled overhead.

When the monster storm passed, they went back only to find their home burning to the ground.

Everything they owned was gone.

"God allows things to happen, but most of the time, the things we go through are to prove character," Jeff Sloan said.

The Sloan's have managed to salvage a few items from the rubble.

Precious Moments figurines are probably the most meaningful.

"It means more than it used to mean, because it's just something of our past that we have to remember," Sherri Sloan said.

Their new church family has stepped in to fill the void by donating household supplies, food and all the necessities for their new home in Bixby.

They're also collecting clothes for some of the Sloan's former neighbors in Moore.

Jeff Sloan and his wife say this outpouring of love has truly touched them.

"You just know you've lost everything you have, but God just gave us the peace that he would take care of us and he has," Sherri Sloan said.
