MOORE, Oklahoma -

Earlier this week, we told you about Jennifer Doan, the Moore elementary teacher who used her own body to protect some of her students during Monday's deadly tornado.

Some feared her injuries would keep her from ever walking again.

Three days ago as the storm bore down on her school, Jennifer Doan covered her third grade students with her body.

CBS reporter Vanita Nair spoke to her in her hospital bed the next morning.

Jennifer has a fractured sternum and spine and doctors the University of Oklahoma Trauma Center feared she would never walk again.  She is proving them wrong.

"I was scared I mean to take that first step," said Jennifer Doan.

From her hospital room, now filled with flowers, Jennifer is starting to move forward.

"I had some students some of my students come to visit and that, it made me feel so good.  I think they were in shock, they've never seen me like this before," Jennifer Doan said.

Jennifer's family has visited and her fiancee is always by her side, but 3-year-old Kylie and 5-year-old Kairi bring her the most joy.

"They're happy just to see me.  We're just so happy that we have each other and I can still see them," said Jennifer Doan.
