When severe weather strikes Oklahoma, known as the "Tornado Alley," many Oklahomans turn to one person for up-to-date, life-saving information.

Gary England, Chief Meteorologist at KWTV News 9, was featured in an article titled "Putting an Oklahoma Spin on Twisters" in Los Angeles Times on Friday.

A massive tornado swept through the Moore, Oklahoma, area Monday afternoon, killing 24 people and injuring scores. More than 12,000 homes in the tornado's path were destroyed.

As reported in the article, two days before the deadly tornado hit, England had an uneasy feeling. The wind patterns emerging over the weekend reminded him of the conditions that unleashed deadly storms in the region on May 3, 1999.

When Republican Gov. Mary Fallin singled out the heroes this week, she included the state's weathercasters, and England's been at it longer than any of them, as reported in the LA Times article.

At 73, England has chronicled some of Oklahoma's most devastating storms in this part of the nation.

England celebrated his 40 years of service with News 9 in October, 2012. He has been selected for induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in May, 2013.
