OKLAHOMA CITY -

The Sooners captured their second straight shutout victory, beating the Red Raiders 8-0 in the Big 12 Championship Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Oklahoma (38-19) smacked 13 hits, including eight for seven runs in the final two innings to take down Texas Tech (25-30) in the second day of pool play at the conference tournament.

The Sooners opened scoring with one run in the fourth. Hector Lorenzana reached base with a two-out single to right field and, following a walk of Anthony Hermelyn, scored after Colt Bickerstaff singled through the right side of the infield.

Bickerstaff was a late addition to the Sooners' lineup and returned the favor for the start. Five of Bickerstaff's 12 season RBIs have come against the Red Raiders.

Lorenzana had an RBI single for the second straight day, plating Max White for the Sooners' second run in the eighth. Hermelyn followed with a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Matt Oberste to put OU on top 3-0.

White was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The win put the Sooners in control of their run in pool play. A win over Kansas State Saturday would put Oklahoma in Sunday's championship game.

The Sooners put the game out of reach with a five-run ninth inning. Garrett Carey led off with a double, followed by Craig Aikin beating out a bunt down the third base line Jack Mayfield reaching first on balls to load the bases. White batted in Carey with a single and Oberste knocked in Aikin in Mayfield with his own base hit.

Kolbey Carpenter, who pinch hit for Bickerstaff in the eighth, singled to right field to score White and Oberste.

Dillon Overton (9-2) struck out five of the 21 batters he faced in five innings. Ralph Garza and Kindle Ladd combined to allow just one base runner over the final four innings in relief.

Oklahoma's back-to-back shutouts were its first consecutive since April 2009 when the Sooners had three straight, with two coming against Texas Tech.

Texas Tech starter Dominic Moreno (3-4) allowed one earned run, but the Sooners kept the Red Raiders off the board and shelled four relievers for six runs on six hits.

Texas Tech had just four hits in 31 at-bats.

Oklahoma finishes pool play against top-seeded Kansas State Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
