RedHawks Fall To Isotopes

Posted: Updated:
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -

Isotopes starting pitcher Matt Palmer fired seven solid frames, and a two-run homer by Jeremy Moore led the Isotopes to a 4-2 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks before 7,135 at Isotopes Park Sunday night.

Palmer (2-3) had arguably his best outing of the season, tossing a season-high seven innings. He held the RedHawks to two runs with none coming after the first inning. Palmer struck out a season-high eight and allowed five hits and one walk.

The RedHawks (31-24) were able to get to Palmer in the first inning. Brandon Laird belted a two-run homer off the bottom of the scoreboard in left-center field to make it 2-0, as Laird homered for the second-straight day and the third time in his last four games.

Albuquerque (30-27) got one run back in its first at-bat. Chili Buss hit an RBI double off the left-center field fence to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Isotopes evened the score in the third inning. Dee Gordon led off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Buss then tied the game with sacrifice fly.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the six. Moore hit an opposite field two-run homer out to left-center for his first home run of the season, giving Albuquerque a 4-2 lead. Through the first two games of the series, Moore is 3-for-6 with three extra-base hits and has reached base in six of nine plate appearances.

RedHawks starting pitcher Ross Seaton left a couple batters after surrendering the go-ahead home run. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four runs and seven hits, five for extra bases. Seaton (2-5) walked three and struck out one.

One day after erasing a two-run deficit in the ninth inning, the RedHawks threatened to do the same Sunday. They put the tying runs on base with one out and had both runners in scoring position with two away.

Andy Simunic came off the bench to pinch-hit for Cody Clark, but Simunic flied out to right-center field on a ball appropriately caught by Moore.

Javy Guerra pitched the final two innings for the Isotopes, earning his first save of the season.

The loss snapped the RedHawks four-game win streak, and they are now 3-3 through their first six games against Albuquerque this season.

The RedHawks and Isotopes continue their series Monday night at 8:05 p.m. central time.
