Dean's Blog: Thanks For The Thoughts

Recovering well from surgery; thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

I want to sincerely thank all the people who sent along best wishes and prayers during my recent surgery and days in the hospital. I'm home and improving daily. Very sore and hard to sleep--but not unexpected.

I've always had horrible/chronic cramping problems but now it's getting out of hand. The thigh on the 'new hip' side is cramping 15-20 times a day. Hurts tons and zaps energy. But overall, no complaints, thankful for great docs and constantly think of the millions upon millions worse off--including our tornado victims.

Much of my pain is related to pushing the rehab too hard--a problem I've had forever as motivation and drive has never been a problem for me. Pushing too hard can be a detriment, be it coming off a surgery or a work project. It helped in sports and the competitive fire helps in being successful at work and other areas. But knowing when to back off is important....and a challenge. But frankly, I'd prefer to have this problem than lack of motivation. Taking four and five walks a day, aided by a walker--amazing really since major surgery was a mere six days ago. Modern medical advancements are remarkable.

Hoping to return to work as soon as possible but that's more the doc's call than mine. Hate not being in the loop. Killing me to not golf for the first time in half a century. It's like missing a best friend. Hopefully, I'll play some before football season kicks off. See doc for a check-up Wednesday and begin home therapy with a specialist in ten minutes.

Enjoying the outstanding success of the Sooners in softball and baseball and haven't missed a pitch. Hated to see Cowboys bow out but they rallied nicely. Still haven't dug in to a good book so if you have a fave pls pass it along!

Have a great day! DB
