Power Outages Leave OG&E Customers In Dark For Days

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

People living in neighborhoods throughout the Oklahoma City metro have been without power for nearly a week.

Customers tell News 9 OG&E isn't giving them a clear answer as to when power could be restored.

"It's very difficult, especially when you have kids," OG&E customer Alicia Nunez said. "There's nothing we can do."

In southwest Oklahoma City, Nunez and her children can see nothing's changed since Friday. In their backyard, they see downed power lines and can hear the hum of a neighbor's generator.

"We can't cook or anything," Nunez said. "We've been eating peanut butter sandwiches. It's really hard with a 1-year-old because she drinks a lot of milk. We can't really have milk in the refrigerator or anything."

Nunez and her neighbors were in the dark for several days after the Moore tornado. Power was running in her neighborhood for just about a week, until Friday's storms. Customers say it seems like OG&E employees aren't really sure what area they will service next.

"I was going to call them today, and ask them if they [are] going to tell me the same thing they've told me for five days, ‘it'll be today or tomorrow,'" OG&E customer Bob Staples said.

While people wait for the power to be restored, their electric bills are still arriving right on time. On top of that, the outage is costing even more money to power generators.

"It costs us $40 a day for gas," Staples said.

Major progress has been made restoring power, but the outages are still scattered throughout the metro.

As of late Thursday, OG&E had not returned multiple calls from News 9. However, customers in southwest Oklahoma City tell News 9 the company says power should be restored by Sunday.
