Disaster Assistance Tops $5 Million For May Storms

Posted: Updated:

Oklahoma homeowners and renters affected by tornados and severe weather between May 18 and 27 have received more than $5.1 million in assistance, according to FEMA and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM).

Disaster assistance includes grants to help pay for temporary housing and repairs, as well as help paying for medical, funeral and burial costs that are not covered by insurance or other sources.

More than 8,000 Oklahomans have applied for assistance from FEMA and OEM. Some tornado victims told News 9 they're frustrated with the FEMA approval process. They say although they believe they qualify for assistance, FEMA has rejected their claims.
