Norman North's Cornwell Ruled Eligible By OSSAA

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) today ruled David Cornwell eligible to play his senior year of football at Norman North High School.

He was awarded an extra semester of eligibility after missing the fall of 2011 tending to his mother, who was dealing with an illness. Cornwell's original hardship was denied, which led to Tuesday's appeal.

"I'm very excited to be ruled eligible to play my senior year at Norman North," Cornwell said in a press release. "I'm really looking forward to getting on the field with my teammates and playing the game that I've loved since I was a child. I also want to thank my family, friends and teammates for their support, including the Norman North coaching staff and administration."

Corwell threw for 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns at Jones High School last season in his first year as a starter. He is rated as a consensus four-star prospect and is regarded as the No. 5 overall quarterback in the class of 2014 by both Scout and Rivals.com.

His family moved from Jones to Norman following the fall semester in 2012.

He already has an impressive offer sheet with scholarships on the table from Oklahoma State, Alabama, Auburn, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, UCLA and Virginia Tech, among others.
