OKLAHOMA CITY -

We Okies have a healthy respect for our wild weather, but we're also fascinated by it.

Why else would so many people stand outside and video tornadoes before scrambling to their shelters at the last moment?

Is it any wonder then that others would be in awe of our storms, to the point of paying thousands to see them?

One of several companies that provide tornado chasing vacations is Extreme Tornado Tours.

They're catching some flak today after the paper ran a picture from their Facebook page of a tour group yukking it up with a large tornado in the background up in Kansas.

It incensed some Oklahomans especially recent tornado victims.

There's nothing joyous about the destruction a tornado does, but these folks clearly weren't celebrating that, I think they were exhilarated by finally seeing what so few have with their own eyes: Mother Nature's power unleashed in an OPEN FIELD.

I believe if it had been hitting homes they'd be rushing to help just like everyone else, not striking a pose in front of the ruins.

Still, should there even be tornado tours?

Going with an expert is better than trying it on your own.

Maybe the tours and the thousands of other "wanna be stormchasers" could be regulated by the state and kept a safe distance away from interfering with the Storm trackers who are actually warning the public or the scientists researching the storms.

It's probably time to license the storm experts and give them the right of way over the amateurs during storms. I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
