A woman is in jail, accused of killing her ex-boyfriend, who was also the father of her two children.

But it turns out the two had a volatile past.

"We knew something was wrong when Jeff didn't show up for work because he always showed up to work, or definitely called when he wasn't going," said Melissa Lane, who is the victim's sister-in-law.

She and her husband still can't believe it. Turns out the body found Friday night, inside a sleeping bag near a dumpster, was that of her husband's brother, Jeffery Ray Lane.

"His biggest downfall was being too nice," said his brother David Lane.

Now this woman, Jennifer Timmons, the mother of Lane's two youngest children, is behind bars, accused of the crime. She lived at the Meadow Lakes apartments - fewer than 50 feet from where the body was found.

"Jeff didn't understand how to be alone, and he just never, he couldn't be alone," said David.

Turns out Timmons had filed two victim's protective orders and a rape report against Lane in the past three years. But all three were dismissed. She claimed Lane would "stalk and harass her, call and text her non stop, and abuse her both physically and emotionally."

But his family says it was the other way around.

"She had cut off his ear and sewn it back on herself," said Melissa. " Major violence; she would not let him see a doctor."

Melissa says filing the VPO's was Timmons way of getting back at Lane.

"Anything she could do to make his life a living hell," said Melissa. "And she has succeeded."

Melissa says Timmons has even threatened her and her family, even going as far as saying she would kill them - and Lane's other children too.

"That is why we have custody of them, because of her violence issues - the judge ordered us emergency custody," asserts Melissa.

Now, Lane's family is warning others in abusive relationships to get help.

"Jeff had actually turned his life for the better and moved on," said Melissa Lane, the victim's sister-in-law. "He had gotten away from her. And to our understanding, she had been texting him last Wednesday - trying to get him to see the children. She got him over there and murdered him. This could have all been prevented had he reached out to the resources that are available - which is what I would like all young people to do."

We did reach out to Timmons family to ask them for an interview as well. They did not respond to our numerous calls and texts.

Timmons is being held in the Oklahoma County Jail awaiting her arraignment. Charges could be filed later this week.

Police are still investigating if any other suspects may be involved.
