Dozens of student volunteers are in Tulsa this week, helping repair homes and spread the gospel.

Some of the students say they wouldn't want to spend their summer break doing anything else.

"It's my favorite part of the year," said Kelsie Hoelscher, from Bartlesville.

The 128 students, from middle school to college age, are here with World Changers, part of LifeWay Christian Resources. They've come from all over the country.

Their job is to do whatever's needed to repair seven Tulsa-area homes.

"We can do things from roofing, painting, landscaping. We have a crew that will be pouring concrete," said Abigayl Hockett, with World Changers.

Homeowner Rita Coblentz said her home has needed a new paint job for years.

"Oh, I'm loving it. They've been working this morning since about 7 o'clock," Coblentz said.

She said she'd never have been able to do it herself, but, thanks to these volunteers, she doesn't have to worry anymore.

"Oh, [it's] really important because, myself, I'm not really good at this kind of thing, and it's been a long time coming," Coblentz said.

This is the eighth year World Changers has been helped out here in Tulsa. Everyone of the volunteers pays their own way to get here, plus another $250 registration fee, just to be a part of the program.

But the volunteers say the money is no big deal. They love doing the work and, more importantly, they say they love spreading the Word.

"We're all here for the same reason. We're all here to work and to be a part of what God's doing in this city," Hoelscher said.

That's what keeps them coming back.

It's Sara McDonald's second year to volunteer. She doesn't mind the early mornings or hard work. She said it's the chance to share her faith that keeps her going.

"To show God's love and just to spread our love by helping others, and what they can't do, we'll do," said Sara McDonald, who came from Missouri.

World Changers will be in Tulsa through Friday. They run entirely on donations.
