OG&E Offers Relief From Oklahoma Heat With Fan Program

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

OG&E is donating 1,000 electric fans to agencies serving low-income and elderly residents in 12 communities across its service area in Oklahoma and western Arkansas.

"Each year, the fan donation program helps those who are particularly vulnerable to the summer heat," said Kathleen O'Shea, manager of OGE Corporate Communications. "We partner with agencies that work directly with those in need to distribute these fans as summer temperatures rise."

Although air conditioners are the best way to prevent heat-related illnesses, O'Shea said using a fan circulates the air, which can keep you comfortable. "A fan in combination with your air conditioner lets you adjust your thermostat by a few degrees to conserve energy and save money," she said.

In Oklahoma City, fans are being delivered to The Salvation Army, Areawide Aging Agency and Community Action Agency. Metro-area residents needing a fan may contact these organizations directly. The fans will be distributed to elderly and low-income residents based on each agency's criteria.

Fans also are being delivered in the next two weeks to various agencies throughout OG&E's service area. It is the seventh year for the OG&E fan donation program.
