Third Phase Of Tulsa Airport Runway Reconstruction Complete

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa International Airport completed its reconstruction of the main runway after six months. Commercial airlines have been using the crosswind runway during the project.

The $20.3 million project was the third of a four-part project estimated to cost $55 million. The project is mostly funded by Federal Aviation Administration grants, according to a news release.

"Our primary objective was to complete this project with minimal disruption to airport users," said Airports Director Jeff Mulder.

The 18-inch thick runway was last reconstructed in 1982. The four-part reconstruction project began in April of 2011.

Phase four, which will reconstruct the intersection of two runways, will be the most complex and disruptive, according to the release. That phase is scheduled for construction in 2014.
