Crews recovered a drowning victim from Waurika Lake in Jefferson County. Gary Vance Burkhart II and his wife jumped from a boat Friday afternoon to swim about 150 feet to the shoreline, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The water was extremely rough, and the 41-year-old Waurika man yelled for help, authorities say. His wife swam to get a life jacket, but when she got back her husband had gone under.

In a separate incident, troopers recovered 18-year-old Maximiliano Garcia, of Duncan.

In an OHP report, it says Garcia ran into the water to retrieve a soccer ball at 7:30 p.m. Friday. His body was located by SONAR and recovered the next morning about 9 a.m.

Garcia went too far into the water and began to struggle, but family members were unable to reach him in rescue attempts, OHP said.
