A Green Country man who nearly died after racing into a burning house to save his son is out of the hospital.

James "Scooby" Girdner spent nearly two months in the hospital. For the first month, he was in a medically-induced coma. At times, doctors worried he wouldn't survive.

Just two weeks ago, though, Scooby took his first steps, spoke his first words, and even ate a few bites of real food.

Now he's relaxing in a new, donated recliner. Someone also gave him a new mattress, so he can rest easy.
