Animal Emergency Blamed For Tulsa Speeding Incident

A driver was arrested for leading Tulsa Police on a chase early Monday. She told officers she was rushing to a vet because someone had shot her dog.

Shortly after 2 a.m.,. police say an officer witnessed the woman driving a dark SUV at a high rate of speed on East 21st Street and tried to stop it.

Eventually the woman, identified as Bridget Kurtz, 26, stopped at the Shoreline Shopping Center near I-44. That was when the officer found out Kurtz was driving to a veterinarian because her dog had been shot by a neighbor.

Tulsa Police say Kurtz did not have a driver's license and was also wanted on several outstanding warrants, so she was arrested.

A man with the dog took the animal on to the vet. There is no word on the dog's condition.

Tulsa Police say a police reserve officer shot the dog once after the dog charged him when he went to check a noise in his backyard.  Police don't expect any charges to be filed against the neighbor.
