Neighbors Speak Out About Elderly Woman Killed In OKC Home

Neighbors say Evelyn Goodall was a very private woman, who had lived in her secluded home for more than 20 years. They say she was 94 and devout in her Catholic faith, but had no one to take care of her.

"We as a community and a city have failed this woman," said Frank, a neighbor who's known her for close to 20 years. "She shouldn't have to worry about how she had her yard and who's going to come in and do things to her."

Frank says he had cut down branches with his son as a way to help Evelyn. He visited her in the hospital just yesterday, and can't believe she's gone.

"I figured she would make it through this," he said.

Frank says he believes the person responsible snuck back to her back patio, then watched and waited for Evelyn to appear. He says he thinks the intruder then broke in through a screen window, making his move.

"And he was in that house and on her before she could do anything," Frank said.

He was horrified to hear Evelyn had been assaulted too.

"I found out later that's what he had done - he had taped her hands together, gagged her and put furniture on top of her."

And Frank believes the person who did that has hurt her before. In fact, police reports show over the past three years, she had reported three separate break-ins.

One where she was beaten up pretty badly.

"And I just think he found somebody vulnerable and he seen nothing was done so he did it again," said Frank.

He just can't understand why anyone would want to hurt this dear sweet woman.

"And if these trees had been gone, I could have stopped what happened here, I do believe that cause the time they estimate he was in here I was on my front porch," he recalled.

In both this recent incident and the one from three years ago, police say Evelyn described her attacker as a tall thin white male, but that's all they have to go on.
