OKLAHOMA CITY -

The 2013 severe weather season in Oklahoma has been deadly and destructive. No doubt storm trackers have saved lives. In the process, they often put themselves in harm's way. Add every-day drivers to the mix, and it's a deadly combination.

In May, we saw drivers stuck in traffic jams as the storms moved toward them. Believe it or not, some people try to get closer to the storm. News 9 Meteorologist and storm tracker David Payne describes it like this, "It's chaos. It's really the worst case scenario."

He took me on the road with him to show me the growing danger on the roads.

"Some days it's worse than being on Broadway Extension at 5 o'clock in the afternoon," Payne said.

That's because more people are taking up chasing as a hobby.

"You'll have chasing tour groups from Kansas or Oklahoma," said Payne. "They're packed full of people from all over the world."

David shares stories from the road. Watch the video to hear about the close calls, dangers and what he does to try to stay away from these storm-tracking traffic jams.
