SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -

An Oklahoma couple says thieves stole their boat for a weekend "joyride" on the lake.

The boat was taken from Pier 51 Marina on Keystone Lake sometime Sunday. The couple lives in Norman, but they dock their boat at Pier 51, and have for the past several years, never with any problem.

Joy Alvarado said, when she and her husband, Jeff Gorzen, first showed up to the marina Sunday, they thought their boat had just been moved to another slip, but that was not the case.

"When we accounted for all the keys - we have a set, they have a set - and they hadn't moved it, so we realized it had been stolen," Alvarado said.

That's when the couple started searching swimming areas, scanning as much of the lake as they could by car.

It wasn't until they were headed home that they spotted their boat, out in the water, just off Highway 51.

"We were amazed. We thought, 'Oh my gosh, what is the likelihood that we would actually see our boat,' and we were amazed that someone had left it out there," Alvarado said.

The thieves had anchored the boat to shore about 200 yards west of a dock.

"They anchored it like they were gonna come back possibly or something," Alvarado said.

When the couple got to the boat around 6 o'clock Sunday night, the motor was still hot, but the crooks were nowhere in sight.

The owners said their boat was hot wired and it had a cover on it, so they said the thieves could have been inside getting it started without anyone ever seeing. The steering column was destroyed, the radio stolen and all the boat's papers gone.

Now, the couple says they just want to find the people who spent a day on the lake, enjoying their boat, at their expense.

"I don't even know what you could have possibly wanted with it, other than to joyride or something, but it was wrong and you shouldn't be stealing and I hope you're caught," Alvarado said.

There are security cameras Pier 51, but the owners refused to say anything other than it's been a long time since a boat was stolen there.

The couple filed a report with a ranger Keystone State Park, but because of the rain, they said no finger prints could be taken.

The thieves did leave a few things behind: an empty bag of chips, used cigarettes and a wet pair of underwear.
