Day 1 of Big 12 Media Days is in the books. Five coaches took the podium and gave the media a mixture of the usual posturing, mundane coach-speak and the downright bizarre honesty that is Charlie Weis.

Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby fired a shot at the SEC saying, "You can't be the best without playing the best."

Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy said the high tempo offense has been the most important factor in creating parity in college football. He also said quarterbacks J.W. Walsh and Clint Chelf will get equal reps in training camp.

Kansas State's Bill Snyder admitted his first coaching job earned him $6,000 and he taught Spanish and drove buses as well.

TCU coach Gary Patterson said the Big 12 offenses don't get any faster.

Kansas' Charlie Weis stole the show while throwing his own players under the bus. When asked about his pitch to recruits, Weis answered, "Have you looked at that pile of crap out there?" Weis said he wasn't surprised his team was picked to finish last in the preseason poll.

New coach at Texas Tech, Kliff Kingsbury, admitted he's looking for a quarterback who can extend plays, which contrasts sharply with the Texas Tech model of recent years, including himself.

Big 12 Media Days continues Tuesday with Bob Stoops (10 a.m.), Mack Brown (10:30 a.m.), Dana Holgorsen (11 a.m.), Art Briles (11:30 a.m.) and Paul Rhoads (12 p.m.) at the podium.
