Washington County authorities continue to investigate the death of a 2-year-old girl who was pronounced dead at a Bartlesville hospital July 27.

Captain Gary Miller with the Washington County Sheriff's office said the girl was taken to the hospital following a drowning incident on the west side of Copan Lake.

"The child, along with her siblings, were playing along the rock bluff located on the north side of Osage Plains Camp Grounds," Captain Gary Miller said.

"A short time later all of the children were called to come up to the picnic area to eat. When the 2 year old did not come up with all the other children, her father and witnesses went looking for her."

Miller says they found the toddler "lying face down in the lake" near the rock bluff. He says a witness jumped into the water to pull the girl out and then began CPR. They then took the child to the hospital.

The name of the child has not been released.
