OKLAHOMA CITY -

A statewide computer system failure Friday put thousands of child support payments in jeopardy.

An emergency shut off system was triggered shutting down state applications and websites, but the system came back online and workers are playing catch up.

At one point, DHS officials said families wouldn't receive child support payments until Tuesday at the earliest because of the system failure. A DHS spokesperson tells News 9, there have been temporary outages in the past but nothing of this magnitude.

The outage impacted all state business, fund systems from treasury, health systems, networking around the capitol, and phone systems. But those waiting on child support money would have taken the bigger hit.

DHS Spokesperson Jeff Wagner says if systems were not returned online by Friday night money wouldn't make it to banks early enough for payments to go out Saturday.

Technicians were able to restore DHS mainframe operations Friday at 8:00 p.m. It was confirmed that child support payments would be processed Friday night without interruption to customers.

Wagner said in an email that technicians will begin the process of identifying the outage's cause to prevent future service interruptions.

DHS distributes more than 10,000 child support payments across the state every week.
