TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard is recommending the former superintendent of a New York school be hired as the district's new deputy superintendent.

Ballard says Dr. Kim Dyce will fill a vacancy left open since last year when Millard House, II, left to become the chief operating officer at the Charlotte-Mecklenberg, North Carolina school district.

Dr. Dyce stepped down from the North Syracuse Central School District on July 12.

According to WTVH, the CBS affiliate in Syracuse, Dr. Dyce's resignation followed a decision by a New York school board to not extend her contract. She had held the top post for two years.

"After an exhaustive national search and a thorough vetting process, we have found the ideal deputy superintendent in Dr. Kim Dyce," Ballard said. "We were thoughtful and deliberative in our search for the right leader. Given Dr. Dyce's experience as a turnaround principal and district leader in an urban setting, and how nicely it matches up with our district's needs and reform efforts, I am convinced she is the best choice for deputy superintendent."

Ballard said in a release, Dyce worked for eight years as chief of staff at Rochester City School District in Rochester, New York, having served four different superintendents.

He says she received her doctorate in educational administration from The Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester in 2005. Dyce has master's degrees in education and educational administration, also from the University of Rochester. In 1989, she received a bachelor's degree in political science.

The Tulsa Public School board is set to vote on Ballard's recommendation at its Wednesday meeting at the Education Service Center on South New Haven Avenue.
