A Tulsa couple is in jail on three complaints of child abuse and neglect after police were called to their home late Tuesday on a welfare check.

Officers arrested Matthew Prior, 27, and Angela Prior, 21, at 11 p.m. at a home in the 1200 block of North 76th East Avenue.

According to a Tulsa Police report, officers saw cockroaches swarming at the front door.

Inside the home, officers said "there was a strong odor of trash, urine, spoiled, rotten food and feces coming from inside." The officers said in every room of the home they found trash, dirty diapers, broken glass, electrical hazards and "thousands of flies and cockroaches."

They also found three children, ages 2, 3 and 5, in the home. Police said the Department of Human Services took custody of the two boys and a girl.

The report said the Priors kept telling officers the house was not as bad as it appeared.

Police booked the couple into the Tulsa County jail with bonds of more than $150,000 each. Jail records show Matthew and Angela Prior have a court appearance set for August 14.
