Oklahoma Republican Senator Jim Inhofe says he's running for another term in the U.S. Senate.

The senator announced his plans Wednesday.

"Washington liberals have our country on a crash course, and it's doing damage right here at home," said Senator Jim Inhofe.

"The Obama Administration's destructive policies have resulted in the hollowing of our military, a staggering job market from excessive regulations, and a struggling economy from big government spending. I have a successful track record of fighting back against these policies, and I still have work left to do to safeguard Oklahoma values for future generations. I look forward to a vigorous and spirited campaign."

Inhofe would be 80 if re-elected next year to another six-year term in the Senate.

The senator currently serves as ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the senior member for the Environment and Public Works Committee.

Tulsa financial planner Matt Silverstein, a Democrat, has indicated he will run against Inhofe. Silverstein reported raising $83,000 since starting up his campaign in June and $74,000 at the end of the reporting cycle on June 30.

Campaign finance reports show that Inhofe had more than $1.2 million on hand at the end of the reporting cycle.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
