Holdenville's new Animal Control officer opened News 9's eyes to how dogs and cats are now treated at the town's animal control facility. 

Robert Davis hosted a pet adoption event at Stroup Park Thursday afternoon. Six dogs and cats were adopted out at the event. 

Two months ago, Holdenville's previous animal control officer was charged with felony animal cruelty, after a resident found more than a dozen dogs and cats either dead or dying from heat stroke and starvation.

Davis says things have changed dramatically since he took charge. 

"All the animals get checked out daily," he said. "They have plenty of food and water, and we have two new fans and a window unit for ventillation."   

Vanessa Cardoza adopted a puppy at Thursday's event.

"This is my hometown.  It's sad that people think of us as not taking care of our pets," she said.
