MOORE, Oklahoma -

After a middle school was damaged, and two elementary schools decimated, administrators had to work fast to make sure all the students would be together again at the start of the school today. And they got some help.

Along with the volunteers, some still here from out of state, students were able to speed up the transition to what's now being called the "new normal".

Briarwood's Amber Johnson now teaches a 5th grade class at Emmaus Baptist church.

"The first day they allowed us to come into the school, most of us were up here," said Johnson.

The changes at Central Junior High, where Plaza Towers students will attend class, went down to the wire. But the most important goal has already been reached: keeping Plaza Towers students together. The elementary kids will go to class in a separate building on Central's campus.

Students from Central Junior High and Plaza Towers Elementary will share a common area, the cafeteria.  The lunches will be staggered and the goal is to create an environment where you have two separate schools.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Romines says the hope is that Briarwood and Plaza Towers students will have two new schools to go to this time next year.
