Briarwood Student Happy To Return To Class, Worried Too

Briarwood students had mixed emotions returning to class Thursday. They were excited to see their classmates and worried if they will ever feel safe again.

Nicky jones is weighed down by more than his backpack. The fourth grader survived the May 20 tornado that hit his 3rd grade classroom at Briarwood Elementary. He's worried now history will repeat itself.

Jones knows he will not be at Briarwood for this school year because the heavily damaged building was cleared away during the summer break. Still, he tells his mom he's uneasy about being in any classroom in the event of another storm.

Positive reinforcement from mom is helping and Nicky is trying to focus on the positives of the new school year.

If nothing else, Jones has this reminder; that he and his classmates have already survived so much together.
