Sequoyah County Man Dies In Possible Alcohol-Related Crash

A Sequoyah County man is dead and another in the hospital in a suspected alcohol-related crash early Saturday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

About 5 a.m., driver Jimmy Don Cheater, 24, of Marble City, was pronounced dead on Oklahoma 17, less than a mile south of Brushy Lake Park. Passenger Trenton Thirsty, 24, of Sallisaw, was transported to a Sallisaw hospital.

The 2006 Pontiac GTO struck a culvert, crashed into a tree and overturned 1.5 times, ejecting Cheater.

In his collision report, the investigating trooper said Cheater smelled like alcohol and was driving at an unsafe speed on a curve.

According to the trooper's report, Thirsty was transported to a Sallisaw hospital with head and trunk injures and is said to be stable.
