Coburn To Muskogee Voters: 'Don't Shut Down Government To Defund Obamacare'

Posted: Updated:
MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -

Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn is defending his opposition to a proposal that would defund the Affordable Care Act.

In a town hall meeting at the Muskogee Convention Center Wednesday evening, Coburn explained why he thinks a current plan to defund the program would fail.

"I actually don't think it's a smart strategy to shut down the government as a method of defunding Obamacare. I think if you want to do it, do it on the debt limit, don't do it on shutting down the government because our economy is so precarious right now, and shutting down the government won't stop Obamacare one iota," said Senator Tom Coburn.

Coburn is calling for Oklahomans to join a national movement to amend the constitution to cut down on an oversized federal government.
