Tulsa Convenience Store Clerk Assaulted, Robbed

Police say a convenience store clerk unlocked the front door of his store for a man screaming for help early Monday and was assaulted and robbed.

Police said it happened at the EZ Mart in the 3700 block of South Memorial at about 4 a.m.

The clerk told officers two men entered, implied they had a gun and attempted to steal the store's cash register. After the men got cash from the register, one of the men hit the clerk on the back of the head.

"It's a ploy they use to get into the store. It's a ploy they use to get into your home. Any time somebody comes to your door screaming that they need the police, don't open your door," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Darren Bristow.

Police said the first man, believed to be in his early 20s, wore a black hooded sweatshirt and red bandana. The only description of the second man was he was in his late 20s. Both men were last seen running north from the store.

The clerk refused treatment by EMSA paramedics.
