As high pressure strengthens over Missouri, temperatures across Oklahoma will continue to climb through Labor Day Weekend.

This week will bring above-average temperatures for this time of year, which will seem extremely hot considering we were below average for July and the first part of August.

Look for overnight lows in the lower and mid 70s, and afternoon highs in the mid and upper 90s, with triple digits in southwest Oklahoma. Right now, the hottest days look to be Friday and Saturday with temps close to 100 degrees statewide. Even if your location does not reach the triple digits, all the humidity in the air will make it feel like the low 100s.

There is a weak storm system in the Houston area that will try to skirt along the heat dome and bring rain chances to far western and southwestern Oklahoma on Tuesday. As long as that system is in the vicinity, we will have at least isolated shower chances in the forecast. Right now this is a long shot, but it's our best opportunity for rain for the next seven days.

Another shot of cooler temps will try to push into the area from the northeast by mid-week next week, and will be our next opportunity for relief from this August heat. Between now and then, find ways to stay cool, and remember your pets!
