Martinez Hits Walk-Off Double In Extras For Redhawks' 80th Win

Oklahoma City, OK -

An RBI double by Jose Martinez broke a 4-4 tie and secured a 5-4 walk-off win for the Oklahoma City RedHawks in the 14th inning against the Nashville Sounds Thursday in front of 5,695 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Raoul Torrez led off the bottom of the 14th inning with a single for the RedHawks, and a sacrifice bunt from Trevor Crowe advanced Torrez to second base. He scored on Martinez's line drive to left field for the win.

The victory gave the playoff-bound RedHawks their 80th win of the season, marking the first time since 2005 an Oklahoma City team has accomplished the feat. The RedHawks improved to 80-60 to become the fourth team in club history to reach at least 80 wins.

The PCL American Southern Division champion RedHawks concluded their season series with Nashville (54-86), improving to 11-5 against the Sounds this season.

Martinez and George Springer paced the RedHawks with three hits each as Oklahoma City won at home for the 19th time in their last 21 games in Bricktown.

Nashville took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Two runs scored on a ground-rule double by Sean Halton. A Hunter Morris single scored Halton for the early three-run edge. The Sounds compiled five hits in the opening frame.

With Jimmy Paredes batting, Springer scored on a passed ball by Nashville catcher Blake Lalli for Oklahoma City's first run of the night. Marc Krauss later scored on a sacrifice fly by Che-Hsuan Lin to cut Nashville's lead to 3-2.

The RedHawks led off the bottom of the eighth inning with three straight singles by Crowe, Martinez and Springer. Springer's grounder to left field scored Crowe to tie the game with none out. Later in the inning, Nashville intentionally walked Marc Krauss with two outs to load the bases for Che-Hsuan Lin, who flew out to end the inning.

The score remained tied, 3-3, until the 12th inning.

Nashville collected three straight singles to lead off the top of the 12th inning, including a RBI single by Eugenio Velez to give the Sounds a 4-3 edge.

Paredes singled on a ground ball to right field to score Springer and tie the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the frame.

RedHawks reliever Jason Stoffel (7-1) allowed one run and four hits over three innings for the win. Nashville pitcher Brent Leach (0-3) was charged with the blown save and the loss.

The RedHawks open a four-game series against Memphis at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Fireworks, presented by Verizon, will follow the game.
