BETHANY, Oklahoma -

It will be a long road to recovery for one Bethany teenager who was on his bike when he collided with an SUV earlier this month.

Matt Noah's mom says she's just happy her son 17-year-old is alive after the accident. He's been in the hospital for three weeks, and just this week, he's been trying to talk.

"They told me he was brain dead, they told me that, they didn't give me hope," said Julie Noah, Matt's mother.

Julie gets emotional every time she thinks about her son Matt. Just weeks ago, he was riding his mountain bike towards Lake Overholser when Oklahoma City police say an SUV hit him at NW 10th and Council.

The SUV driver stayed on the scene and called 911. Police is still investigating the accident. The driver was not arrested and does not face any charges at this time.

Meanwhile, Matt has severe brain damage, a broken back and fractured vertebrae, but his mom says he's doing much better. He's moved to another hospital and just started physical therapy.

"He can give us the thumbs up, he can look at us, he can nod a little bit, it's like having my infant back," Julie said. "You know he went from being my 6 foot 3, 17-year-old teenage son to my baby."

After the accident, doctors had to shave off all Matt's hair for his brain surgery, so his mom shaved off half her hair too.

"I shaved all of that for him so that he would know, so I saved the hair and wrote him a letter," she said.

Troubles continue to pile on the family as Matt recovers. In addition to his medical bills, Julie is also very sick with Pancreatitis, so she can't work, and says her family no longer has a place to stay.

"I just need a home if anybody has a rental home in Bethany, please help, that's all we need right now, just a home," Julie said.

The family also lost their home seven years ago to Hurricane Katrina. If you'd like to help the Noah family, you can contact a close friend of the family Sara Bana at (405) 537-4955 or email 0Sara.Bana0@gmail.com
