OSU's Caleb Lavey has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week in the season's first round of awards. Shaun Lewis was the last Cowboy defender to win the award and that was in Week 8 of the 2011 season.

Lavey recorded 11 tackles, two for loss, and half a sack in Oklahoma State's 21-3 win against Mississippi State. It was the fewest points the Cowboys have held an FBS opponent to since a shutout of Oklahoma in 1995.

Texas Tech's freshman walk-on quarterback, Baker Mayfield, won Offensive Player of the Week and TCU's B.J. Catalon is the Special Teams Player of the Week. Mayfield completed 43-of-60 passes for 413 yards and four touchdowns in Tech's 41-23 win at SMU.

Catalon's 100-yard kick return against LSU tied for the second longest in Horned Frog history. Catalon also rushed for 52 yards on eight carries and added three receptions for 22 yards in the 37-27 loss to the Tigers.
