Families in Midwest City are trying to figure out all that was taken in a recent string of burglaries.

Midwest City police say the number of burglaries they saw this past holiday weekend were double what they usually see on a normal weekend. That includes three home break-ins in the same neighborhood near Lotus Avenue.

"I'm not going to let them win," says Gloria Schratwieser.

Friday night, thieves broke into her home in the 700 block of Lotus Avenue and stole jewelry, an antique gun and her car that was in the garage.

Schratweiser hopes more people will take part in the neighborhood "Citizens on Patrol Program." The program allows neighbors to deter crime by patrolling their neighborhoods. Each volunteer must take a class taught by the Midwest City Police Department.

"We refuse to be prisoners in our own homes," says Schratweiser.

The city provides volunteers with T-shirts and signs to put on their cars as they drive down neighborhood streets.
