Thursday Morning Update

Posted: Updated:

Posted 3:30AM.  Good morning.  Our weather will remain largely unchanged for the next 5 to 7 days.  The main feature will continue to be a mid-level ridge of high-pressure currently located west of our area.  This ridge will expand and move eastward over the next 48 to 60 hours and will be increasing our temperatures very slowly over the next several days.  Morning low temperatures will slowly climb and daytime highs will eventually level of into the mid 90's.

Significant lower level moisture is currently being suppressed well south of our area into the Gulf of Mexico.   A slight increase in low-level dew points will be possible by Sunday into Monday across the eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas.  This will mean an increase in temperature humidity values, but only very slightly.

Computer model data keep the state void of precipitation through the weekend.  There may be a few small isolated showers or storms in western Arkansas Sunday and Monday but even this would be a very long shot.

The ridge of high pressure will move eastward Wednesday and Thursday of next week as a mid-level storm system will move across the northern high plains.  This may bring a weak cold front near the state Wednesday through Friday.  This feature may bring a few showers or stores across northern Oklahoma, but at this time we will keep only a very slight chance of a shower or storm in the day 7 period of the extended forecast.

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a newly named Tropical storm and a few disturbances that could develop into tropical like systems over the next several days. TS Gabrielle is located near Puerto Rico.    Another one of these non-named systems is located near the Yucatan peninsula.  We will continue to update you on any developments regarding tropical systems.

The official high temperature in Tulsa yesterday was 94 degrees recorded at 3:38pm.  Our normal daily high is 88 and the low is 67.  Daily records include a high of 107 from 1913 and a low of 49 from 1974.

You'll find me on Facebook and Twitter.  I'll also be updating our statewide in regional weather forecast on numerous radio Oklahoma News Network affiliates this morning.

Thank you for reading the Thursday morning weather discussion and blog.

 Have a super great day!
