Jencks was one of two detectives previously assigned to the Saunders murder investigation. The case was turned over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) earlier this year.

Soon after, the OSBI confirmed it was investigating the Bethany Police Department after it was discovered evidence was missing from the property room. In July, Chief Phil Cole said three officers were placed on administrative leave during the investigation into the missing evidence. The OSBI concluded its investigation in August.

Chief Cole said two of the three officers were allowed return to work but he could not disclose their identities. Sources tell News 9 the third officer was Capt. Jencks.

City officials confirmed Jencks was recently released from duty but would only say, "it's for the good of the service." At last check, no criminal charges have been filed against Jencks.

Our calls to the Oklahoma County District Attorney's office were not immediately returned.
